Motion and Forces in Your World
looks at examples of motion in the world to come to a basic understanding of how and why things move.
Course Objectives
-
Interpret phenomena in the world through the
lens of
physical science
-
Examine methods for making careful observations
of
physical phenomena
-
Explore concepts of motion, force, speed, and acceleration
-
Investigate ways to identify and build upon prior knowledge
Course Syllabus
Session 1:
A Window onto Your World
Look for and observe examples of motion in our everyday world.
Teaching and learning strategies focus on how to build
upon prior knowledge.
Session 2:
Motion and Force
Explore how motion relates to change over
time and results from forces applied to
objects. Teaching and learning strategies focus
on developing observational skills.
Additional Course Information
- 15 contact hours
- First in a series of three courses for teachers of
elementary
physical science
- Other courses in the series:
- A full survey course (45 contact hours),
Teaching Elementary Physical Science, is also available.
We recommend course modules be taken in order. If this is not possible,
it's important to have a basic knowledge of the content and methodology
described in the preceding courses.
