Course Facilitation

Teachers' Domain Professional Development courses are designed to be facilitated. This model enhances learning, increases activity within the forums, heightens the level of interaction participants have with one another, and increases course completion.

Licensing organizations provide a facilitator for each course. Depending on the nature of the organization, the facilitator may be a staff member or an outside facilitator hired for this purpose. WGBH provides a comprehensive Facilitator's Guide, as well as assistance in getting started if needed. As the course progresses, any questions a facilitator has will be promptly answered.

Facilitator's Guide

The Facilitator's Guide is specific to the content of the course and includes:

  • Getting Started
  • Communicating with Participants
  • Communicating Your Expectations
  • Overseeing Participant Progress
  • Facilitating Discussions (including how to create a successful online discussion environment)
  • Facilitator's Notes for Each Session, including:

    • Topical Discussion Ideas and Prompts
    • Teaching and Learning Discussion Suggestions
    • Modeling Effective Teaching Strategies
    • What to Watch for in Each Assignment

Assessment Rubrics

To aid in grading, if needed, and to enhance course participant learning, the facilitator's version of every course includes a full set of assessment rubrics. A detailed rubric is available for every assignment and for the discussions as a whole. Facilitators are encouraged to share these rubrics with course participants prior to starting, further supporting the clear learning objectives that participants see throughout the courses.

Because the course content is so great,
it's not hard to facilitate.
