explores the essential question of how to use processes of scientific inquiry to learn and teach about the living world.

- Investigate the similarities and differences
between scientific inquiry and classroom inquiry
- Explore characteristics common to
all organisms
- Use techniques to surface students'
prior knowledge and understanding
Course Syllabus
Session 1:
The Nature of Science
Learn about the nature and process of science.
Teaching and learning strategies focus on bringing
the scientific process into the classroom.
Session 2:
Living Things
Distinguish between living and nonliving things and
identify the characteristics of life, including growth,
reproduction, and dependence on air, water, and energy.
Teaching and learning strategies
focus on ways to uncover participants' prior understanding.
