Teacher models the "I wonder..." reading comprehension strategy for her kindergarten students and leads them in guided practice.

open Background Essay

Teacher Patrice McCrary (Cumberland Trace Elementary, Bowling Green, Ky.) uses established routines that allow her kindergartners to function successfully as they learn how to use the "I wonder..." strategy. By generating questions, students become more aware of whether they can answer the questions and if they understand what they're reading.

This video was originally part of the multimedia professional development resource Literacy Strategies in Action produced by KET in 2006 in collaboration with the Kentucky Department of Education.
