Enter the exciting world of dating ... fossil dating, that is.
This article by Dennis O'Neil, Ph.D., introduces fossils (how they form and what they can tell us), explains relative and chronometric dating techniques, and contains extensive illustrations and graphs.
List three questions you have about the process of dating fossils, and explore this article to answer those questions. Discuss any misconceptions you might have had and whether or not the information presented in the article addressed those misconceptions.
Discuss the differences between relative dating and chronometric dating. Which dating technique(s) were available during Darwin's lifetime, and how did their limitations affect his work?
Academic standards correlations on Teachers' Domain use the Achievement Standards Network (ASN) database of state and national standards, provided to NSDL projects courtesy of JES & Co.
We assign reference terms to each statement within a standards document and to each media resource, and correlations are based upon matches of these terms for a given grade band. If a particular standards document of interest to you is not displayed yet, it most likely has not yet been processed by ASN or by Teachers' Domain. We will be adding social studies and arts correlations over the coming year, and also will be increasing the specificity of alignment.
