Questions for Discussion: Galileo's Thought Experiment
What is a thought experiment? Which aspects of Galileo's thought experiment work as a model for Earth's movement and which do not? When you pour a glass of water at home or on an airplane is the movement of the water the same or different? Why? Have you ever drunk or eaten something in a car? Were there any problems? Why or why not? What happens when a car speeds up, stops suddenly, or goes around a corner? Does our awareness of movement change then? Explain.
