In this segment from Zoom into Action, students from the Kids Care Club at East Hanover Middle School in New Jersey have created a project called Bags of Love. The club collects and bags donations of clothing, bottles, and other supplies for mothers of infants, and children who cannot afford these supplies on their own. Angelica believes it is important to do community service, or projects that help local neighborhoods. Angelica says that it is very rewarding to know that you are helping others and making them happy. Community service builds awareness that there are people who need kindness and support.

Angelica: My name is Angelica and I’m from East Hanover Middle School in New Jersey. “Bags of Love” is program where we collect baby materials and things that you need for mothers that don’t have money to buy these things. We’re donating it to WIC, Women, Infants and Children. And they hand it out. We posted up posters in our school, we made announcements, the students brought in a lot of materials, some stores made donations. We collected bibs and diapers, wipes, bottles, pacifiers, clothing. I think it’s very important for children to do community service because it makes them more aware how people are less fortunate than others. The best part of this is the feeling you get afterwards knowing that you made someone’s life happier.
