In this video segment from Cyberchase, the CyberSquad is looking for a lost Transformatron. Matt can see it along one line, while Jackie says she can see it along a different line. Digit and Inez try to figure out how this is possible, and they discover that one point can lie on two different lines.

Here are some Frame, Focus and Follow-up suggestions for using this video in a math lesson.

What is Frame, Focus and Follow-up?

Frame: Let’s say you have a friend who is in a park, and she says she is looking through some rose bushes and sees a statue. You are somewhere else in the park. You are looking at the same statue but you are looking through a wire fence. Is that possible? How? Do lines have anything to do with this?

Focus: In this segment, Digit makes a model using information gathered from Jackie and Matt, however, he changes his model after he makes a realization. What change does he make to his model? How does he describe the two lines in his new model?

Follow Up: What kind of lines did Digit have in his first model? What kind of lines did he have in his revised model? Can you think of somewhere you have seen lines like those found in Digit’s models?

INEZ: If we can just pull the NIC out of the transformatron, Hacker will transform back to what he was!

DIGIT: But we have to find the machine to pull out the NIC and we don't have a clue where it is! Waitasecond! I made a megamistake! Eagle Rock isn't here! It's here! Now I gotta move the string too.

INEZ: Oh my gosh!! The two lines cross! So there is one point that’s on both lines - the place where they cross!

DIGIT: Yep, right here! Which means the Mattster and the Jackster are looking at the same thing from different directions!

INEZ: Jackie's looking from here...

DIGIT: ...and Matt's looking from here!

INEZ: Guys! We've got it. Look!

JACKIE: Hey! The line between me and Sneaky Peak crosses Matt’s line to Eagle Rock!

MATT: Then the transformatron’s gotta be at the point where those two lines cross!

INEZ: Exactly! "X" marks the spot! But how are we going to get there in time?

DIGIT: Leave it to The Didge - I got it covered! You keep The Hacker busy! Matt...Jackie, I'm in position. Show me your lines!

JACKIE: One straight line comin' atcha, Didge!

MATT: And here's mine!

DIGIT: Way to go, Earthlies! The transformatron's right where you both said it was! I'm going in!
