In this audio segment from PRI's The World Science Podcast we learn that the ancient Hebrews gave five planets, and Earth, Hebrew names. As Uranus and Neptune had not then been discovered, Israelis later adopted the Western names for these planets, but The Hebrew Language Academy, a government funded institution that coins new Hebrew terms, wants to change this and is asking the public to decide on new Hebrew names for the two planets. This podcast explores the inspirations behind some of the 2000 suggestions, and reveals the finalists to be voted on this year.

The World Science Podcast is a weekly production of The World.
