This audio segment from PRI's The World Science Podcast includes first-hand recollections about the December 3rd, 1984, poisonous methyl isocyanate gas leak at the Union Carbide pesticide factory in Bhopal, India. As many as 8,000 people are estimated to have died, thousands more have died since then, and still others remain sick. The factory where the accident occurred was shut down, but the ongoing toxic legacy is a topic of great debate.
The World Science Podcast is a weekly production of The World.
